Founded in 1953 by a group of volunteers, the Cape Peninsula Organisation for the Aged (CPOA) has over the years become “The Retirement Specialist”.

Today with over 20 properties, including several upmarket and new developments, CPOA covers the entire spectrum of services for retirees, catering to both their independent living needs and later full frail care.

CPOA aims to provide its residents with the highest standard of care in homely, secure and comfortable environments. Our healthcare facilities make provision for those in need of special care. Independence is encouraged by trained healthcare professionals and the quality of care in all the CPOA homes is of the highest standard.

CPOA is a non-profit organisation overseen by the CPOA Board of Governors (BoG) and their elected Council of volunteers. The Governors are the official voting members of CPOA. The Councillors, elected from the BoG, oversee the operations on a regular basis. The BoG and the Council Members are chosen based on their dedication, skills and expertise.

It is the role and function of the BoG and Council to ensure that the organisation is managed within its constitution and to approve and support the strategic efforts of the senior management team. Our BoG meets for the CPOA AGM and as required to deliberate important issues, whilst Council meets bi-monthly to consider financial and service matters. Council meetings are followed by meetings of the CPOA management committee (MANCO). This committee is an important link in the representation of all residents at the highest level of our Corporate Governance structure. MANCO comprises of the Chairmen of our various Home Management Committees representing each of our Homes, Residences and Senior Centres and Senior Head Office Managers.

Volunteers play an important role in assisting CPOA with the work they do for the elderly and their commitment is much appreciated. Interested persons can contact CPOA head office.

Joan Birbeck (Life President) ✞

Joan Birbeck passed away at the age of 95 after almost 50 years of voluntary, loyal service to CPOA.

Dr Michael Zipp

Chief Executive Officer

Dr Michael Zipp was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of CPOA beginning of 2015. He started his professional career as an auditor with KPMG before he joined the multi-national consumer goods company Henkel in Germany. After various positions in Europe and Asia, Dr Zipp was appointed Managing Director of Henkel South Africa in Johannesburg. In 2010 he joined the consulting firm ESA-Meridian in Cape Town as a Managing Partner, where he was also involved in projects related to the retirement industry.

     
 

Anita Balchin

Human Resources Manager

Anita Balchin is the HR Manager and is responsible for a variety of Human Resources Management functions such as the implementation of labour related legislation, recruiting, employment agreements and labour relations.

She was appointed in 1987 and has twenty years of HR experience.

     
 

Pieter Beets

Chief Operations Manager

Pieter Beets is the Chief Operations Manager of CPOA. His duties include overseeing the operational activities of all the CPOA facilities and retirement complexes in Cape Town.

He has been with CPOA since 1986 and has a solid nursing and healthcare background.

     
 

Ingrid Jacobs

Head of Sales & Social Work

Ingrid Jacobs joined the CPOA in 1999 as a Social Worker. She has 33 years of Social Work experience.

The Social work department is in charge of the assessments of both existing and new residents at the different CPOA properties.

     
 

Xolani Phukwana

Chief Financial Officer

Xolani Phukwana is the Chief Financial Officer for the CPOA and is responsible for the management of project funding and investments. His focus is to advise and assist the CEO and Council in terms of projected income, expenses and cash flows.

He has been with CPOA for more than 10 years.

     
 

Sr Colleen Roux

Manager Nursing Services

Sr Roux manages and supervises the performance and standards of nursing in the health care facilities owned and/or managed by CPOA.

She has been involved in the retirement industry since 1977 and joined CPOA as a Nursing Manager in 2009. In 2014, Sr Roux was appointed as Nursing Services Manager for CPOA’s Health Care facilities.

     
 

Sandi Gelderbloem

P.A to the Chief Executive Officer

Sandi Gelderbloem is employed as PA to the CEO of CPOA and she runs the front office. In addition she also performs the role of secretary to Council.
